“Be strong and courageous.”
This command is repeated directly 7 times in the Bible and referenced over 20 times. Many of those moments are paired with another command: do not be afraid.
God commands it—because it is a choice.
Life is hard. Circumstances can feel overwhelming. And how we respond in those moments matters. But when God tells us to be strong and courageous, He is not asking us to do it on our own.
His Word reminds us that He goes before us and stands behind us.
“For the Lord will go before you,
the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”
— Isaiah 52:12
He is ahead of you, preparing the way.
He is behind you, protecting what you cannot see.
So when He calls us to be strong, He is really calling us to trust Him.

Why Is It So Hard?
If it’s that simple—be strong, have courage, do not be afraid—why does it feel so difficult?
Because we are not in control.
That’s the part that stretches us the most.
I have surrendered over and over. I’ve laid my burdens down, asked God for help, trusted Him… and then picked it all back up again. Wondering why it’s taking so long. Wanting answers. Wanting relief. Wanting to skip ahead to the miracle.
Not out of ungratefulness—but because I’m tired. Because I get scared.
Because waiting is hard.

What God Is Doing in the Waiting
The truth is, the waiting is not empty.
It’s where God is doing some of His deepest work.
He is teaching me to trust—fully trust.
He is teaching me to rely on Him, because He is the only one who truly can carry it.
He is teaching me patience, when I would rather have instant answers.
He is strengthening me on the days I feel weak.
He is building courage in the face of my biggest fears.
Do I want to learn these lessons?
Honestly… no.
I would rather skip this part. I would rather ask, “why me?” and move straight to the breakthrough.

But I Know This
One day, I will look back on this season and see it differently.
I will see how He was working in ways I couldn’t understand at the time.
I will see how He was shaping me, strengthening me, and preparing me.
I will see that He never left—not for a moment.
And I will be grateful for the person He was creating in the middle of it all.

So Today, I Choose
To be strong—even when I feel weak.
To be courageous—even when I’m afraid.
To trust—even when I don’t understand.
Not because I have it all together…
but because He does.
So today I pray-
Lord,
You call me to be strong and courageous, even when I feel anything but that. You tell me not to be afraid, yet You see the fear I carry and the weight I feel in the waiting.
Help me to trust You here.
When I grow tired, strengthen me.
When fear creeps in, remind me that You are near.
When I try to take control back, gently lead me into surrender again.
Thank You for going before me, preparing the way.
Thank You for standing behind me, protecting what I cannot see.
Thank You for walking with me through every unknown.
Teach me to trust Your timing, even when I don’t understand it.
Teach me to rest in Your promises, even when the answers feel far away.
Shape me in this season into who You are calling me to be.
Even in the waiting… I choose You.
Even in the uncertainty… I trust You.
