Over the next few days, let’s walk through this psalm together. Psalm 91 is one I have turned into prayer—words I speak before every treatment for our daughter. It has become a place of refuge for me, and it brings a comfort that is both steady and deep.
1-Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2-I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Verse one invites us to dwell in the shelter of the Most High. But how do we do that? We dwell by spending time with God—by choosing relationship over ritual, connection over perfection. We maintain an ongoing conversation with Him.
My mornings are my prayer time. I try, and I fail at times, to fully dedicate that space to the Lord—praying, reading His Word, and listening, asking Him to speak into what He has prepared for our family. But this communication does not end when morning prayer is over. I continue to talk with Him throughout the day, bringing Him into every moment, every fear, every hope.
It is through this ongoing relationship that I have learned to truly find rest—especially in the moments when I needed it most. I vividly remember a time when I was so exhausted I felt I could not take another step. All I could pray was, “Please Lord, I can’t do this. Let me rest in You.”
That moment is one I will never forget. God not only allowed me to rest in Him, but He showed up in ways that could only have been Him—reminding me that His shelter is real, His presence is near, and His rest is available even when strength is gone.
My prayer for you is that you would allow yourself not only to dwell in His presence, but to truly find rest in Him. It may sound simple, but it requires complete surrender—letting go of control and trusting that He will take care of you and those you love.
