What has God been preparing your heart for?
In that hard moment—the diagnosis, the devastating circumstance, the scary unknown—did you accept the words of man, or did you know there was more? Did God whisper in that still, small voice, “This is not the end”? Did you remember His words: be strong and courageous?
I remember the day like it was yesterday.
The scan. The waiting room. The drive to the main hospital campus. The ER. The meeting in an all-glass room while our daughter stayed back in hers.
The devastating words: no hope.
That’s what I remember most—the weight of that implication.
Shock. Disbelief.
And then my phone rang.
“Are you coming back soon, Mama?”
I told the care team she needed us—and we left.
I walked back into that room to face my daughter, knowing the battle in front of us was the biggest we would ever face. I didn’t know how we were going to do it—but I knew Who I was going to call upon.
Later, she told me,
“I knew it wasn’t that bad, Mama… because when you came back, you weren’t a mess.”
That right there—that was Jesus.
Because the words spoken over me in that room should have dropped me to the floor. They should have crushed every ability I had to function.
But they didn’t.
A blunt message went out to our closest family and friends. No sugarcoating—just urgency.
“We need prayer. Now.”
Looking back, I see it so clearly:
God had been preparing my heart long before that day.
Since I was young, He was building something in me—
a refusal to back down,
a strength to endure,
and a sensitivity to His quiet, guiding voice.
The night before the scan, I knew in my heart something wasn’t right.
The day at the hospital, I understood every word they said medically.
But deep in my soul—I knew God had written a different story for our daughter.
My knowledge of scripture was strong then… but nothing like it is now.
My trust in Him was deep… but nothing like it is now.
My faith?
It has grown tenfold.
Because He has shown up—in my life, my husband’s life, and in each of our daughters’ lives—in ways I once thought only happened in the Bible.
That day, I could have crumbled.
I could have turned away.
I could have chosen anger.
And yes—there are still moments of anger.
But now, I bring that anger to Him.
The pain, the fear, the questions—I lay it all at His feet.
We didn’t crumble.
We turned toward Him.
And God answered.
Our miracle isn’t complete—and some days, that’s hard.
Our comeback story isn’t finished.
But today, on Easter, I am reminded—
even when all was thought to be lost, God’s story was just beginning.
I truly believe our miracle is in the making.
And the story God is writing is one I pray brings glory to His kingdom
and complete healing to our daughter. I will continue to pray the words written in red back to Him.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.”
—Ephesians 3:20
God didn’t send His only Son to die for people He didn’t love.
He sent Him because of His love for us.
That is why I turn to Him.
A Father who loves His children that much…
is a Father who hears their cries.
“I love the Lord, for He heard my voice;
He heard my cry for mercy.
Because He turned His ear to me,
I will call on Him as long as I live. Psalm 116:1-2
My prayer for you is that you keep reaching out—in the good, the bad, and the unbearable.
Call upon the One who can truly help in your time of need.
The Father who turns His ear to your cries.
